cloudy skies at least through mid to late morning with more sun this afternoon. high temperature of 54. we drive home at 50 degrees and sunset by the way 5:00 on the nose. and those winds could gust 25 maybe 35 miles an hour thanks to the nor'easter still cranking off the massachusetts coast. the snows is pulled away from the new jersey coast but parts of connecticut and new england dealing with us. for us we've got mostly cloudy skies somewhere scraws a sprinkle or -- and just a sprinkle or two. but this is really impressive with the low pressure there off the massachusetts coast. even parts of connecticut close to a foot of snow. locally just little sprinkle or two in the upper part of the bay trying to drive to the south. temperatures this morning, you're going to need to bundle up. they're in the mid 30s to upper 30s in the shenandoah valley. frederick down to 32 with 44 on the bay but when you factor in the wind we've got windchills in the 20s and 30s generally. it's 6:00 a.m. good morning monika samtani. it's almost friday not quite. i think everyone is going

to be really happy with the weekend. that's because we've had a couple of issues this week and this morning, it's an the northbound side of 95. it's an overturned box truck two left lanes are blocked north of route 32. let's take a live look from our mdot camera. you're going to see that traffic is jammed through the area heading northbound 95 now the southbound side is not affected by the accident so that's at least some good news traveling out of the columbia area. down to the beltway. but northbound, this is what you will have to deal with early this morning and i of course am keeping an eye on that situation. let's go back over to the maps this time head over to the other side coming in from the west. no issues to report on the dulles toll road or 66 in from center sill right now the fairfax, the lanes are open. a live look now northbound on 95 pretty much the same story. back with more on the accident in 95 at 6:11. back to you guys. thank you monika. it was the last thing the northeast needed. another storm and unfortunately that is what's happening there now. >> yeah, nor'easter began

pounding that region yesterday, rain, wind, snow. big travel headache as well over 1,000 flights are canceled as a result of the bad weather. >> kristin fisher is live at the airport with more on what's going on. and if anything's leaving this morning, good morning kristin. >> reporter: good morning. well, here at reagan national, the impact from the nor'easter can really be seen in this sheer number of flights that have been canceled. about 1200 flights canceled overnight and still a few this morning although the good news a little bit later in the day i am seeing a little far fewer cancellations. so there's some good news. but 1200 flights canceled in total and tell you what last night the travel wasn't any better by trains. just take a look at the incredibly long lines last night for the long island railroad. snow-covered tracks suspended service for several hours and service resumed running on a limit schedule. also penn station the penn station was shut down for about

an hour last night due to overcrowding from all those people that were coming there for the long island railroad. all of them just backing up. well, that combined with the frozing cold made for some very frustrated commuters. >> most of the people working the booths in penn station said they had no idea what was going on. they were waiting for us to tell them. >> we're here trying to find a cab to get home. we find other people that are going to the same place and we're carpooling. >> penn station is shut down. i jumped on e train out here. and tried my luck. not working out so good. >> i don't know what to think. right now i want to get home because i'm cold. >> reporter: now keep in mind, this nor'easter moved ashore in the exact same location where superstorm sandy hit. nearly 800,000 homes and businesses are still without power and some people had just gotten their power turned back on after ten days with no electricity. and now, they've lost power again. i mean can you imagine? first a once in a century hurricane, then a nor'easter

just ten days later. brutal. as one long island resident with no power said i feel like i'm living if a sequel to a bad horror movie. that is a sentiment certainly shared by new jersey governor chris christie. in a press conference yesterday, he said -- what's next? locusts? i'll have more from him coming up from a half hour at 6:30. >> thanks kristin. now well, in prince george's county police officers are looking for more information this morning on a shooting in hillcrest heights, a shooting last night and when they got to the sewn they found a -- scene they found a man was shot outside an apartment building at 23rd parkway. the victim was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. the detectives are working the case the morning to find a suspect and a motive but the investigation is still continuing. d.c. firefighters were called to a burning car last night on brentwood parkway and they didn't just find a car when they got there. they found a dead body next to it. police are saying the car fire was a result of a collision. the medical examer has the body

-- examiner has the body and is doing the autopsy now. this morning we have an update on the man investigators are calling the east coast rapist. aaron thomas linked to sexual assaults up and down the east coast reportedly will plead guilty to attacks in prince william and loudoun counties. in 2009, three teenage trick-or- treaters were attacked on halloween and a woman was raped in her apartment back in 2001. there is also new information this morning on a serial groper. a ninth woman has come forward to say she is a victim. officers have increased patrols, two incidents within 30 minutes of each other last thursday at hibbling avenue in springfield. police say the suspect has fondled women between the ages of 15 to 42 since september. a woman in falls church says a man matching the description grabbed her last month. fairfax county police are looking into a possible link. it is 6:05. jessica doyle, she's still watching your money. >> indeed and she's making sure you don't get taken when you go

be surprised. winchester hagerstown 34. easton 39 and fredericksburg 43. and again that cool looking shot there at 42 from our michael & son weather camera. windchills 37 because right now the winds are only north- northwest at 9. that's at national. but i've seen areas like quantico and dulles gusting over 20 in the last hour. very quiet to the west. once we get rid of the nor'easter just crank off the coast. our weather is going to be getting warmer and stay dry it looks like potentially until tuesday of next week. so here's our futurecast. there goes the storm. still some clouds especially east of town at noon. west we'll see more sunshine. we clear out for the afternoon and evening hours. cold night tonight with lighter winds we'll fall into the 30s upper 30s 234 town. low 30s north and west. now into the day on friday. nothing is coming our way. so it looks like a nice sunny day. closer to 630 in the afternoon and some clouds -- 60 in the afternoon and some clouds and a warm front up here. we may get a few clouds saturday morning but overall

of making the anti-muslim filling inciting so much violence in the middle east will spend the next year in prison. nakoula basseley nakoula was sentenced for violating his probation in a 2010 bank fraud case. none of the violates had anything to do with the con content of innocence of muslims. that depicts mohammed as a fraud and womanizer and pedophile. the movie sparked protests all over the middle east including egypt, iraq, iran and israel. today the man who wounded congresswoman gabrielle giffords and killed six others will be sentenced. jared loughner is expected to get life in prison with no chance of parole for the january 2011 rampage. giffords and her husband are expected to attend the sentencing along with other survivors. well, as if they haven't had enough, with that superstorm sandy last week, more when we come back on the nor'easter that's wreaking havoc across the northeast. >> howard will have all of that plus your weather first in our

i'm so sorry. 95 in maryland. been ongoing for the hour and a half now. i was just on the phone with police department state police in water -- maryland state police in waterloo. no injuries involved but with it being a fully loaded that's what's taking so long for that clean-up. the two left lanes are blocked and let's take a live look at the delays heading northbound and you are absolutely jammed now you're sitting at home watching the or just heading out the door? use an alternate route. route 1, 29, even the bw parkway. just don't get up on to 95 heading to jessup because you will be in the delay northbound side of i-95. now you know. on alexandria on the south side of town where oh they just moved the camera but there's an accident on the inner loop of the beltway after telegraph road. it's three cars involved two right lanes blocked there. back to the maps real quake on the inbound side of 66 you are fine but northbound fairfax county parkway is blocked with an accident. and i'll be back with more

in some areas even more. >> the storm moving ashore in the same location where the superstorm hit. kristin fisher is live in the airport. >> reporter: good morning. well, between 1200 and 1300 flights have been canceled across the northeast over the last 24 hours all because of in nor'easter. now, the worst of it was really felt yesterday afternoon and evening. we're seeing some progress. but take a look at the departure board over here and you can see we still have one, two, three, cancellations heading into new york, laguardia and newark airport. but look, there are quite a few flights that are on time. so we are seeing some progress. but this has been a major major hiccup for a lot of business commuters. now as frustrating as it may be for flyers, this is nothing compared to the frustration felt by the nearly 800,000 people still without power in new york and new jersey. first they get hit with a superstorm then ten days later

a nor'easter. i mean come on. it's just not fair. many people had just gotten their power back on when they lost electricity again due to the snow. yesterday before this second storm hit. new jersey governor chris christie said he does not like setbacks but in this case, what can he do? >> when i finally got that final kind of forecast and i got last night, i said i'm waiting for the locusts and pestilence next. you know -- [ laughter ] so we're getting ready. for another storm. >> reporter: across the northeast, towns scrambling to redirect resources from cleaning up to shoring up for up to a foot of snow. last night, cars were stranded on highways and train tracks covered in snow. penn station was shut down for an hour last night. laguardia the exact opposite. completely empty as i said 1200 to 1300 flights canceled across

the northeast. now, it is getting better. more and more flights are getting in and out of new york and laguardia. this board looks a lot better than it did yesterday afternoon. and evening when we were really feeling the full force of this nor'easter but as i said three cancellations still on the departure board. several more on the arrivals board. so you're planning on traveling to the northeast? just check your flight status because it's just really hit or miss right now but it is getting better but at least you're not one of the people still without power. can you imagine how frustrated you would be? you get power after ten days and then bam it goes right back off? people can't be happy. >> absolutely exhausting. thanks kristin live at reagan national this morning. okay it is 6:34 now and as we were all voting for the president on tuesday one of the major initiatives you might not have heard about puerto ricans voted in favor of trying to become the 51st state. it's the first time a majority of voters favored it there.

what does thionine for d.c.'s fight? -- that mean for d.c.'s fight? ken molestina has more. >> reporter: meal restaurant in washington doubles as a kind of depack coembassy for -- de facto embassy for puerto rico. now they might become the 51st state. it was here we talked to robert alvarez. he's the founder and executive director of the world affairs of council of puerto rico. >> into the d.c. and puerto rico thing, which was going to be first? >> reporter: for the first time in island's history puerto ricans have voted in favor of state hood. 54% to 46%. >> it's more of the -- the residents, the american residents than the puerto rico pretty much telling congress hey, we don't like what we have right now. we need to start talking about what how we're going to go forward with the u.s. and the island. >> reporter: of course d.c.'s mayor gray has a lot to say

about the push. he's a huge proponent for d.c. state hood. he applaud the puerto ricans' efforts but as you would imagine, he wants the district to be the 51st state. >> we're glad they've stepped up. perhaps we can join forces to make the case as to why we should be a state. >> reporter: make to mistake, mayor gray is vasing to get -- racing to get state hood for d.c. before anyone else does. he's gotten arrested as an act of civil disobedience to prove his point. >> they're going to have to work very hard to make the case. >> reporter: congress will make the final approval but president obama will respect the will of the puerto rican people. which that has the executive chef feeling proud of her island roots. >> it's great to be part of the democratic government that is going to allow us to really fick what we want,. >> reporter: will congress agree? downtown washington, ken molestina, 9news now. at 6:36 jessica doyle has another your money report. >> counting down to the fiscal

cliff. here we go. >> that's right coming out of the election of course we're headed into a lame duck session of congress and the pressure is building to get something done before january 1st. that's when the debilitating package of tax hikes and spending cuts hit the country especially washington area. o -- especially the washington area. some are worried it could trigger another recession. lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have some willingness in order to compromise. the house speaker john boehner started a public negotiation with the president said. he said republicans would accept an increase in tax revenues if they're tied to tax and entitlement reform but boehner specifically rejected the way the president would raise revenues with higher taxes and upper income for americans. of course that was pictures of tim kaine that you saw there. the home -- your home is worth some more money. the median price for an existing single home jumped almost 8% in the third quarter compared to the same time last year. this is the biggest jump if six years. the report from -- in six

years. the report from the national association of realtors says most cities saw some gains. at&t may have been caught in a fib. the company announced a plan to cover 96% of the u.s. population with 4g lte service by the end of 2014. well, that seems to show at&t told regulators a whopper last year when fighting for the doomed t-mobile merger. the company said without t- mobile, it was very unlikely it would expand 4g lte service beyond 80% of the country. the fcc called at&t out saying it believed the company was going to expand with or without t-mobile. at&t denied it at the time but now this comes along and at the time says it never lied and the circumstances have changed. >> uh-huh. >> things happen. >> things happen. >> yeah. competition. sure thing. >> sure they do. >> so 4 g coming. >> thanks jess. an impressive story when we come back in the spirit of

northeast with broken clouds. temperature of 42 officially at reagan national. mostly cloudy skies being reported and that wind only 9 at national. although some areas are gusting to 20 and can you see the flag in the lower right corner? that's standing pretty stiff here. dew points continue to drop and our humidity now only 40%. once we get rid of the nor'easter our weather is going to improve greatly over the next few days. we have high pressure in illinois and the difference is driving these strong north and northwesterly winds. that's keeping us chilly this morning. but the clouds will pull away andly bunch time we look to be partly to mostly sunny and stay that way for the afternoon. clear tonight and dip into the 30s and upper 30s in town and low 30s north and west. and then a sunny friday with our temperatures approaching the 60-degree mark. and even warmer over the weekend. 54ed to. more sun as the day wears on. 38 tonight and tomorrow 60. with not a bad wind at all. 65 on saturday. we'll call it partly sunny at least.
